The story so far.

Kate Cuthbert is a South Australian artist based in Adelaide who creates under the name ‘satin&tat’. With a background in Furniture Design, and a former jewellery maker, Kate found her artistic place in analogue collage. Her art evolves naturally, always staying true to her minimalist aesthetic.

Kate’s process is free flowing, giving each collage the space it needs and resisting the urge to overwork it. The resulting artwork is clean, simple and often defined by negative space. Describing her style, ‘Print Magazine’ called her “a mastermind of minimalistic geometric designs,” noting the sleek, bold layouts and the occasional use of bright, vivid colours.

Her collages invite viewers to pause, breathe, and unwind. Working intuitively, Kate lets the materials guide her, reimagining found images through a personal lens. Each piece is a reflection of her experiences while she explores themes of form and fashion.

Kate’s work has been exhibited extensively, both in Australia and internationally, with shows in the US, Europe, and Scandinavia. She has been featured in ‘Collage Collective Co Annual’ (AU), ‘We The People-Satellite Journal’ (NYC), and ‘Oltre magazine’ (Italy). In 2021, ‘Print Magazine’ named her Instagram account one of the “Top Five Collage Artists to Follow” and in 2024, she received a Bronze Award in the ‘Contemporary Collage Magazine Awards’ (Fashion Series). Her collage artwork has also been commissioned by ‘The Wall Street Journal’ (USA).

Kate has collaborated prominent collage artists such as Zach Collins (USA), Itchi (France), Karen Lynch (Australia), and Franz Samsa (Italy). In 2021, she partnered with Australian label ‘Kitty Came Home’ on a range of clutches, journals, and jewellery. Her work has also graced album covers for ‘The Vanity Cure’ and ‘The Wanderers’, and she’s collaborated with brands like ‘Ted Baker’ (UK), Cristina Ruiz (Spain), and ‘Earth Greetings’ (Australia).

In 2019, Kate launched ‘minima’, a collection focused solely on exploring shape and colour.

A mainstay in Adelaide’s market scene for the past 10 years, ‘satin&tat’ offers fine art prints, greeting cards, and various other collage-inspired products. Kate also enjoys teaching workshops for all ages, sharing her love for collage with others.
